Home away from Home – Camping

A couple of things to think about before you head off camping

Camping is all about having fun with friends and family. If it’s not fun then you shouldn’t be doing it. There are some definite things you can do to make sure that your trip is as fun as humanly possible and I’m going to share these with you right now.

First of all you need to make sure you know where you want to camp. There are a ton of different camping sites and it’s a good idea to read up about them before you make your final decision. Find out what is around them in terms of activities and recreation places. Are there lakes to water ski or kayak on? Are there good trails for hiking and nature walking? These kinds of things can make all the difference to your camping trip.

You also need to pack properly for the trip. Make sure you have a first aid kit that has everything. A smart first aid kit will have all the following

  • Any necessary personal medication
  • Bandages, both large and small
  • Aspirin
  • Tylenol
  • Medical tape
  • Sterile gauze
  • Antiseptic cream like Polysporin
  • Burn ointment
  • Sunburn lotion
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Eye wash
  • Snake bite kit (depending on where you decide to camp)

You may not want to trust the weatherman completely either. It’s not a bad idea to take some rain gear just in case and an extra pair of clothes never hurt anyone.

Camping can be a blast, just make sure that you choose the right spot to camp and that you have a well stocked first aid kit just in case you need it while you’re away.
