Should a tie occur, the game will either be declared a draw or be continued until the score can be settled, depending on the league's rules. Each period of overtime consists of 15 minutes. Should a winner not be decided after the second period of overtime, there may be a penalty shootout to resolve the game. While the goals in overtime count towards the final score, kicks during the penalty shootout are only used to decide who the games winner is. The standard duration of Soccer games is 2 periods of 45 minutes each, which are called halves. The clock is constantly ticking down, even when the ball is out of play. After the first half ends, there is usually a half-time break of 15 minutes before the game continues. Rules Referee's are in charge of keeping track of the game, and may allow teams to make up time which was lost due to injury or other incidents. Time added this way is commonly called stoppage time. The breaking of rules may result in fouls, which may lead to punishments such as a penalty kick or direct free kick. Some other fouls may result in an indirect free kick. Players who break rules may additionally be punished by the referee with cards. There are 2 types of cards, yellow and red. The yellow card is a warning, and a red card results in a sending-off. Should a player be sent off, they will not be replaced by a substitute.
