How to Play Spoon Race Objective The objective of the Spoon Race is for participants to carry an egg on a small spoon and race to the team flag then back to the starting line without letting the egg fall.
Game Layout Each team stands behind the starting line in a single file formation. At the start of the race, the first person in line will race to their team flag, then run back to their respective teams. After the first person comes back to the starting line, the first player will transfer the egg onto the spoon of the next teammate. The recipient will race to the team’s flag while the first player will hand out the spoon the third person in line. The race goes on until all the participants have successfully run to their respective flags and back to their base. Game Description Spoon Race, or better known as Egg and Spoon Race, is played in many schools. It can be played by all ages starting from 3 years old until whenever a person could still race. Spoon Race is usually played on sports day in schools or at parties. This game can be played anywhere where there is enough space to run through. The game evolved into different variations by making the race more challenging. For kids, instead of running, they could race by hopping with one foot only. Or another way to race is by walking backwards. For the adults who can run faster and balance the eggs on the spoon with ease, there is a variation that could make the race more challenging. Instead of holding the spoon in the hands, the players have to hold the spoons using their lips. If a participant touches the egg by hand, that player will go back to their base and try again. Another variation of the game is by tying the inner legs of a pair of players. The legs must be tied into 2 or 3 different locations (preferably the thighs, knees and ankles) to make the bond stronger. Both players will be given their own spoon with egg to balance To make the game harder, when transferring the egg to a teammate, the giver and the recipient of the egg must not touch the egg by any parts of their bodies. They can only transfer the eggs using the spoons they have in their hands or in their lips. Rules 1. If the egg falls, the participant will go back to the starting line and try again. 2. Use only one hand in balancing the egg. 3. The first team in which all the participants complete a run to the flag and back to the starting line wins the game. Strategy, Skills, and Tactics Don’t focus much on the running but more on the balancing of the egg. There’s a saying “haste makes waste,” and it applies to this game. Make sure you don’t drop the egg until you reach your base.
