How to Play Tag Objective The objective of Tag is for the “IT” to tag, usually by hand, the other players changing the “IT” with the player who has been tagged.
Game Layout At the start of the game, the players will choose who will be the first ‘it’. This is done through elimination or coin toss. After selecting or determining the first ‘it’, the other players will scatter and try to avoid being tagged by the ‘it’. If a player is tagged by the ‘it’, that player will become the ‘it’. The former ‘it’ will join the other players who are avoiding being tagged by the new ‘it’. Game Description Tag is played worldwide with different variations. The main rule is easy to follow, if you are the ‘it’ then chase other players to become the ‘it’. Tag is played anywhere there is enough space to run around. It is played mostly to fill time or to warm up. Any age that can run can play. The game is so diverse that it can be played with different rules. Before starting the game, all the players must agree on specific rules. This includes the boundaries, specific instructions for the ‘it’, and sometimes the bases of each team. There is no time limit, so it ends abruptly depending on different circumstances. The common ending of the game is when most of the players quit because of exhaustion. Rules The players can use or combine any of these rules for fairness and challenge. - No Tag Backs. The ‘it’ will have some time of immunity not to be tagged by the new ‘it’
- Boundaries. If the ‘it’ sees someone who went beyond the agreed boundary, that player automatically becomes the new ‘it’.
- Freeze Tag. The player who has been tagged by the ‘it’ will freeze and the ‘it’ will continue tagging other players. Anyone who is still unfrozen can unfreeze the frozen players. The player who has been unfrozen by an unfrozen player and has been tagged once more will become the new ‘it’.
- Tags Out. The first tagged player will become a prisoner and hold onto a base with one hand and the other hand holding the ‘it’. The ‘it’ will continue tagging the free players and the next tagged player will hold on the first prisoner and to the ‘it’. This will continue until all the free players are tagged. But if a free player tags the base and shouted ‘tags out’ then all the prisoners will be freed.
- Inverted Tag. One player is the ‘non-it’ while the rest of the players are the ‘it’. The ‘it’ players will chase the ‘non-it’ player. The person who tags the ‘non-it’ will become the new ‘non-it’ and the former ‘non-it’ will join the ‘it’ players.
Strategy, Skills, and Tactics When the ‘it’ comes near you, you can duck and evade the hands. This works very good especially when you are slow runner and the ‘it’ runs faster than you.
