Game Description

The game of Knock-Out Whist is a trick-based game of cards for up to seven players, and is often considered one of the easiest to learn games of it's kind. Also due to the games easy to play nature, many consider Knock-Out Whist to be an excellent starting point for Children to first get into trick-taking card games. Although the game is very popular with children, many adults enjoy and play the game as well. Knock-Out Whist is also known by many other names including but by no means limited to:

Reduction Whist,Trumps in Britain, Diminishing Whist (which is in reference to the way one less card is dealt each with every hand of the game) and Rat.

Also it is quite frequently called Whist by players who are unaware of the game which is properly called Whist. This game simply called Whist is an entirely different game, although some similarities do exist between Whist and Knock-Out Whist. For instance, both Whist and Knock-Out Whist are trick-taking card games. Besides Whist and Knock-Out Whist, there also exists many other card games with the word Whist in their name. As with Whist, these are different games than Knock-Out Whist.

These unrelated games include:

Bid Whist, Call-Ace Whist, Scotch Whist, German Whist, Colour Whist, Romanian Whist, Israeli Whist, Minnesota Whist, Three Handed Whist , as well as a number of others.

Rules

For the games first round, the dealer has to deal seven cards to each and every one of the players, and one card is turned up to show that the suit is the Trump suit for the initial round of play. With the subsequent rounds, one player will select the trump suit.

The player to the left of the dealer leads off with the first trick, and any card may be led off. After this the other players play in a clockwise order, and each is to play a card in to the trick and must follow the suit by playing a card of the same suit as the card which was led off if they happen to have one.

Any player who does not play a trick is eliminated.

Strategy, Skills and Tactics

Should a player have no cards of that suit, they may play any card for either trumping or discarding. Each trick is won by the highest card of the same suit as the led card, unless a trump is played. Should that occur, the highest trump would win. The tricks winner leads off the next trick.

The player who had taken the most tricks, selects the games trumps for the next hand.
