How to Play Mah Jong Mah Jong is a wonderful game. You can play Mah Jong online in www.coolgamesonline.com->Games->puzzle games or click here . Objective: When playing Mah Jongg, each player is allotted 13 tiles. During each players turn they will pick up one tile and then discard another from their hand. The object of this game is to complete suits (also know as melds), most of the time suits are done in threes, from 13 to 16 total tiles. The first player to achieve this wins.
Board Layout: This game can be played with a board layout consisting of the Mahjongg tiles or playing cards, which are mostly used for traveling and playing this game. Many variations of this game will also include racks that will hold the tiles or chips (that can stand alone w/o a rack). Game Description: At the start each player will throw three dice (sometimes only 2) and the player with the highest total is chosen as the dealer for this round. Game wind will change after each round, unless the dealer wins. All tiles are face down and shuffled, each player then stacks one row, two tiles high in front of them. Depending on how many total tiles are used it can be spilt different ways (136 tiles with 17 stacks per player, 114 with 18 stacks, and so on). Each player is dealt either 13 tiles or 16. If a player receives tiles winning hand from the start (known as a heavenly win) they may declare the win before the game starts. A turn involves each player drawing from the wall (draw pile) and then placing it in their hand, then discarding a tile onto the table. A player wins by creating a Mahjongg (a certain number of melds). If the player wins by drawing a tile from the wall a special name is given named tsumo. This game is quite similar to gin rummy, just using tiles instead of cards. Dots consist of a number of circles on the tile (1-9). Bamboos are named (excluding a name for the first) of all bamboo sticks. Honor tiles are for the wind (north, south, east and west). Characters are tiles that represent ten thousand coins, or one hundred strings of one hundred coins (these are marked with the lines at the top and red marking at the bottom). There are also dragon tiles, which are red white and green. Flower tiles are sometimes discarded before playing, as it is easier to win a hand in the game with playing with them since 3 flowers can equal the west wind and you can also get bonus points. Rules: Most of the rules for this game are specific to the scoring of each hand. For most all variations of this game, players choose that hands will have a certain point value when winning each hand (round). Strategy, Skills and Tactics: When you first have your tiles in order, before the game starts, check to see the quickest way you can discard. Discard any tile that will not help in the game, even lucky tiles if they are allowed. Last update : 13-12-2007 18:46
