Volleyball is a very interesting game. You can play volleyball online in www.coolgameslive.com->games->sports or click here . Objective To score points by grounding a ball on the opponents side or by the opponent committing different penalties.
Court Layout It is played on an 18 meter by 9 meter court with a net raised about 2¼ meters above the ground. Game Description Volleyball is a sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a high net and attempt to make an air filled leather volleyball touch the ground on the opponents’ side. The six players on a team are arranged in two rows of three players. The player who is in the back-right corner, when facing the opposing team, is the player that serves the ball. The players are rotated once the opposing team loses possession and their team must serve the ball. Rules Play is started by a player under-handing or over-handing a ball onto the opponents court. If the ball hit’s the net when being served, and does not go onto the opponent’s side, it is considered a fault and the other team is awarded a point and given possession. Play continues until the ball is grounded or a fault occurs. There are many faults in which the other team receives a point. The most common faults are balls that are grounded out of the play area, hitting the ball more than 3 times on one side, or hitting the ball twice in a row by one player. In order to win a set of volleyball, the team must have a score of 25 and be at least two points ahead of the other team. Games are usually played in a best of five sets. If the fifth set is required, the score needed is reduced to 15 points. Strategy Passers retrieve the ball when it is served or spiked to them. They have to make sure the ball does not touch the ground and that it gets to the setter. The setter, in turn, bumps the ball to be spiked by an attacker. A spike is a downward hit intended to ground the ball on the opponents’ side. If a ball is spiked, and a passer is unable to retrieve it properly, they dig, or dive at the ball. Dives are harder to control, and can sometimes go out of bounds. Blockers usually consist of all front-line players, and attempt to prevent the ball from coming onto their side of the court. The back-line players provide back up incase the ball is not blocked. Served balls can not be blocked. Last update : 20-12-2007 11:38
